Annabel Trechmann bio

The Beetroot illustrations used for our new wrapping paper and veggie bags were painted using watercolours in 2014 by talented local artist, Annabel Trechmann, who has lived in the Bath area since 1985.

Annabel is a member of the Bath Society of Botanical Artists (BSBA), a thriving society with the aim of promoting an interest in botanical art and developing skills in all forms of botanical illustration. The BSBA holds an exhibition every other year and from the 2014 theme of vegetables, Combe Grove has adopted this wonderful beetroot illustration.

Annabel, who has been painting since school, was brought up in East Africa until the age of 12, after which time she moved back to England. Whilst homeschooling in Africa Annabel found she could draw and paint plants from nature. She recalls that she had a notebook with text on one side and clear paper on the other and after bringing back treasures from nature, she would draw them, filling up the clear side and giving her much pleasure in the process. This interest continued when Annabel moved back to England and settled in The Quantocks, Somerset, where she found herself even more excited by the English flowers and plants and particularly spring flowers. Her botanical drawings blossomed in this rural idyl where she lived with no electricity, thriving amongst nature with the freedom to roam the hills and paint at leisure.

Annabel will be creating more illustrations of our nutritious vegetables as the seasons change.
