EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or Tapping Therapy was created by Gary Craig in 1995 and combines ancient eastern philosophy with modern-day psychology. It is a method whereby the tapping of certain pressure points balances the body’s energy system holistically, sending calming signals to the brain and therefore the body. This means that stress can be alleviated in relation to anything, whether it be an emotional or physical issue, past or present.
Mindfulness has been adapted in a secular way from Buddhist practice by Jon Kabat-Zinn, designed as a beneficial way of living one’s life. It increases self-awareness, the enjoyment and gratitude for life’s small details and to find peace and stillness within. It involves focus on the breath or other points of focus to bring awareness to the present moment to reduce thoughts, enhance calm and learn methods to meet our own needs or those of others in a non-reactionary way.
