The Science Behind the Symptoms
Your gut is not just about digestion. It’s central to immune function, inflammation, hormone metabolism, mood and metabolic health, communicating constantly with the rest of the body via the gut-brain axis and the microbiome. When that system is disrupted, through dysbiosis, low-grade inflammation, impaired gut barrier function, or poor digestive and pancreatic function, the downstream effects can look like textbook IBS: bloating, pain, erratic bowel movements, food sensitivities and fatigue.
The challenge is that IBS is often a description of symptoms, not a diagnosis of cause. Two people with identical symptoms can have entirely different root causes, which is exactly why generic advice so often falls short.
Bloating. Irregular bowel habits. Cramping after meals. The unpredictable flare-ups of IBS that seem to have no clear trigger. For so many people, these symptoms become something to simply live with, managed with trial and error, restrictive diets or a shrug from a rushed appointment.
At Combe Grove, we take a different view. Digestive symptoms are rarely random. They’re signals from a complex, highly individual ecosystem and with the right testing, that ecosystem can be understood rather than guessed at.
