Ali has lived and worked in Swaziland, South Africa, France, Italy and Switzerland giving her a wealth of experiences and a love of travel and good food.  

Ali completed a degree in Languages and worked at The Financial Times in London before returning to her passion and fully embarking on a lifetime of adventures in the food world.

Self-taught, but with experiences in some great kitchens, Ali has owned three popular restaurants and while her boys were growing up ran an outside catering company with her husband doing many weddings and interesting parties in and around Bath.  Some of the most memorable include Trafalgar Night dinners for the Royal Navy, polo matches for Prince Charles, the launch party for James Dyson’s factory in Malmesbury and his daughter’s wedding to name a few.

Her most recent venture was as Chef and Owner of The Circus Restaurant in Bath, spending fourteen years at the stoves before selling the business to her Head Chef in 2021.  The Circus won acclaim in all the major food guides and is still a local favourite.

Having thought she had hung up her apron for good Ali was sought out and asked to devise menus of tasty food to support good metabolic health and prediabetes for The Map Room and the Metabolic Health Retreat programme at Combe Grove.  

Ali hopes to encourage people that seasonal, local, nutritionally informed food, which is low in carbohydrates and with little or no sugar, can be delicious and will improve health and in turn lifestyle.
