Over 40 different plant species within this small meadow area

It’s nice to see hard work paying off! We’ve identified almost 40 different plant species including 8 different grass species in this meadow that we have been restoring over the last year. It’s only when you get up close you can spot all the variety.

This amount of diversity is typical of calcareous grassland. Grassland like this provides very important habitat for insects and rare butterflies.

Unfortunately, modern agricultural practices have seen a decline in this type of habitat. At Combe Grove, over the coming years, we will further improve this habitat using traditional management practices including conservation grazing when we get our sheep.
