If you’ve been to Combe Grove, you will have experienced our breath-taking view. Our neighbours at The American Museum have an equally stunning view and we went along with Visit Bath for a tour of the house and grounds to find out about the exciting things happening in the coming year.
The museum is home to a fascinating collection of decorative arts and interiors from America. Each Period Room interior installed in the magnificent Claverton Manor, is a representation or recreation of a room from a different period in American History. The Greek Revival room is a firm favourite of ours, decorated with neoclassical furniture, it illustrates the wealth and fashions of 1820s New York.
Fast forward 100 years and we found ourselves in the 1920s Jazz Age: Fashion and Photographs exhibition, a colourful presentation of the decadence of 1920s fashion, celebrities and lifestyle in America. The vast collection of women’s fashion, from morning to evening wear, transported us to an era of hedonism. Coupled with the photography of James Abbe, the exhibition is an immersive experience and not to be missed.
But it’s the gardens and grounds of The American Museum that are really the highlight of any visit there. Like Combe Grove, Claverton Manor has incredible views across the Limpley Stoke Valley. There are lots of developments planned for the gardens, starting from next year, including an outdoor amphitheatre, a brilliant new space for events in the Summer months.
If you would like to discover The American Museum for yourself, you are in luck, as we have some tickets to giveaway! Head to our Facebook page to find out how you can win a day out for you and your family.
