This autumn, under the guidance of club member and local artist Michael Pell, we have curated a new art collection, which showcases the work of a number of independent local artists, many of whom are based very nearby in Combe Down.
The acres of woodland and breathtaking views that surround Combe Grove, inspire everything we do here, and our art collection is no exception. The resounding theme of the work exhibited throughout the manor house is that of the natural world. From landscapes, seascapes and botanical studies in a variety of mediums, much of the work compliments Combe Grove’s surroundings of valleys, woodland and beautiful, natural views.
Our current collection features work from artists who are based within a 10 mile radius of Combe Grove, including; Alan Backwell, Catherine Beale, Deirdre Elphick, Julie Starks, Kelly O’Brien, Mary Liddell, Mary Wilkinson, Mike Arnold, Mike Service and Rosemary Simmons. We are also delighted to be hosting a collection of sculptures from Martin Elphick.
Here’s a peek at some of the new artwork…
Coleus – Julie Starks
Somerset Mists – Catherine Beale
Comet – Martin Elphick
No. 5 – Mike Arnold
Plasma – Rosemary Simmons
Our plan is to have a collection which changes regularly and we will exhibit the work of art and design students from the local schools, colleges and universities in the future to give them a platform to showcase their work. We will also offer them the opportunity to get involved in the curating process, from approaching artists to hanging the works, to provide enriching work experience for those seeking a career in the art world.
